A Full Heart at Christmas

I was never really big into Christmas until Jim and I had our first apartment together. Actually, I was kind of a debbie downer when it came to the holiday for some reason, and it was like something awakened inside of me once I had my own place to decorate and enjoy the holiday (and maybe someone to share it with, or something). A while ago I read some articles on how to create shapes using bokeh and I only remembered it recently when we put our tree up! So, naturally, I decided to rig a ghetto-fab version and try it out myself.

I’ll mention now, this was made with one piece of paper so it cost about 10 cents, if that, and I didn’t go any further than that so all the photos are in circular form… but I actually kinda like them!

So, here they are! Merry early Christmas and yay for playing with bokeh! In the future I’m sure I’ll play with it again using different shapes and such!

The first attempt!

I like this second one because it picked up the lights on the star! And yes, don’t mind our LED star and our non-LED lights so it looks a little weird. Christmas season was short this year with a late Thanksgiving so I didn’t really bother getting things situated this year, haha.

We have some other strands on our mantle, so I draped some of the red ones over a stocking just to play with red lights, and I kinda love them!

A close up of the tree, and I really enjoy that this little cheap-o filter thing that I made for the bokeh effect almost made this look like a fisheye lens!

A far away shot of both lit areas!

Playing with the focus on the camera changes the level of background blur, or bokeh. I just think this is such a cool little experiment and I am so glad I got to take a step back and get some shots of our tree this year!
